Marathon Training: Week 2 is COMPLETE!!

Phew! Another week done. I gotta admit, this training plan is kicking my butt big time. Aron warned me, but its just taking a lot to get used to multiple long runs each week. Aron, I am afraid for week 5... Gulp.

Never mind. I can do this. I. CAN. DO. THIS.

Is it concerning to be this wrapped up in mental trickery so early in training?!?

Maybe its just the cold Canadian winters that are getting to me.....

This is just the beginning. Thank goodness its only a 12 week program.

Random week 2 stats/thoughts:
-63K/39 miles
- lactic threshold workouts suck during but feel so good afterwards
- I think pfitz designed this plan for people that can run 12 miles in under a hour, thus making it a great mid week workout.
-I particularly enjoy a 15 mile run, where I am being whipped not only by wind but by ice pellets. Its AWESOME.
-I like the challenge even if it sounds like I am whining.
-I am starting to feel stronger, although not faster yet, but I am in the endurance phase now
-my stick I ordered on-line can't come soon enough. Currently poor Hubs is rolling out my muscles with the following:

Don't worry I don't bake pies, ever. Its probably the most use this pin has ever seen. It kinda works....

On the eating clean front, its going well. I have starting a new blog to report some recipes. Its called Cooking on the Run. I don't intend to be fancy with this blog, I will simply write the recipe with a mini review. This may change as I find myself taking pictures of all of the food I eat. I have a bunch of recipes to post yet, but there are a few to start off.

Happy running everyone and thanks for reading!

I can't even imagine long runs during the week. I can barely manage four miles most weekdays! And I love your new blog. Thanks for posting the bread recipe!

Back when I trained for my first marathon I had a bad IT-band and the physical therapist told me to rub it our with a rolling pin. It works great.

If you're getting bored with the rolling pin, duct tape two tennis balls together and roll on them...very effective

You are going to LOVE the stick. And, yes, you CAN DO IT! Woo hoo!

That's a tough plan, and to be running 39 miles in only the 2nd week really speaks to its toughness. But, it should pay off! Best of luck.

You can do it! Just keep taking it week by week. 63k/39 miles in week two = wow!

Girl! You're a nut! Keep up the hard work. It'll pay off. Just be sure to get your rest too. That is also very important.

great job on week 2!!! those LT workouts do suck :) but feel so good when they are over!

you are doing a great job... just stay focused on one day at a time and listen to your body. there were a couple times i got so wrapped up in what was ahead and making sure to run all the miles i just crumbled.

oh and i remember actually feeling slow the first 5-6 weeks as i was building the miles. it wasnt until the later weeks that i started being able to pick up my speed in the longer runs.

yay go marci!! it will all pay off :)

Great job on the hard work :)

I was going to order the stick, but since I discovered my rolling pin, I've changed my mind...

Sounds like a good second week. I like the idea for the rolling pin. I have three for some reason and never really even use one!

Great idea on the food review blog. Love the name too :)

That plan sounds crazy. And kind of intriguing at the same time...

week *2* at 39 miles? and you have 12 of these?!? i lol'd at your "12 miles/hour" comment. seriously, who can run that long in the middle of the week? most people have a hard enough time squeezing that in on the weekend! you are going to own this marathon!

Sounds like an awesome training plan! I need a plan and a workout partner! :(

Whine away!! Pfitz is the master of masochism! LOL It's very intense training, you're doing well so far!

I saw in your earlier post that you're considering the FLying Pig marathon. A blogger fellow ran it last year, you can read his RR here if you're interested: http://yumkerun.blogspot.com/2008/05/race-report-flying-pig-marathon.html

Hilly but he loved it!

Great job on week 2!!! Getting long runs in during the week are tough! and I have resorted to using a rolling pin as well! Thank goodness I just bought a foam roller finally! :)

Did you say 12 miles in an hour? That is amazing! Simply amazing. Rolling pin. I don't see anything wrong with it. There are some with more groves you can try as well.

Nitmos said...

39 miles is more than I ran in all but 3 weeks last year. Good luck with your training!

Hi Marci

I would say that is some pretty impressive mileage. I started laughing (?) about the ice pellets as I have already dealt with that a few times this lovely winter.

Best of luck in '09.

12 miles mid-week makes me shudder almost as much as that rolling pin!

You now have two of my favorite things, a running blog and a recipe blog! Going to check it out!
